After playing high school sports, I never found going to the gym to be challenging AND fun. I tried small gyms, big gyms, even all female gyms, but they all ended up being rows of intimidating machines that looked like they were made for torture. When I found Balance, I knew that my whole outlook on exercise had changed. Their training philosophy is sports-oriented and all about getting your whole body moving, instead of doing endless machine circuits. I have been in the boot camp and weight training classes for over a year now and for the first time, I can do pull-ups! I also have never been to a gym that is as friendly as Balance. In the fitness classes, people of all ages and sizes are working out together and supporting one another. Not a lot of people can say they have a whole new group of friends that they met at their gym! I wouldn't work out anywhere else in DC.

Thanks to the great folks at Balance Gym, I can honetly say that at 41 years old I am in the best shape of my life. I have been training at Balance for 2 or more times per week for over a year (both personal training and fitness bootcamp). What keeps me at Balance Gym? The great atmosphere (laid back and fun, but serious about results) and the variety in ways to exercise has changed my life. I lost my mid-life belly, I eat much healthier (most of the time), and I include functional exercise in my day-to-day routine as much as possible. I know what it means to be "fit for life."

Since I started training for fitness with Balance, 1.5 years ago, I will never again return to a "cattle run" gym. My trainers have completely changed my attitude towards strength, balance and fitness to mold it into a lifestyle, not a faze.
I am constantly faced with new challenges and I am always meeting and making new goals with the team at Balance. My life is balanced, focused, strong and fit and I plan to keep it that way.

Working out with Mark Crick would seem intimidating because he is this “professional rugby player,” but he is so easy to train with. Mark is patient, but not at all easy on me. I'm always being pushed to do a little more weight than I think I can or a few more reps than I think I can. Basically my two concerns when working out are: not looking like an idiot and improving my overall strength and physique. With Mark, I've successfully achieved both. And even though I thought I hated push-ups, now I can pump out a good set--no problem!
