danielle Danielle helps clients at CrossFit Balance achieve their goals by applying her passion and commitment to progress, involvement in the fitness industry for nearly ten years, and diverse perspective gained as a competitive athlete in different arenas. Her prior experiences range in various training environments and programming including work with: boxers, rugby players, martial artists, bootcamp experience, and high school athletes, and runners.

CrossFit Balance Foggy Bottom is very well equipped to allow you to complete a multitude of workouts during class. In the CrossFit area, we have 15, 30, and 45 lb bars, many squat racks, climbing ropes,  and stacks and stacks of bumper plates. Plus, members also have access to everything Balance Gym has to offer including 15,000 SQFT of workout space, numerous group classes such as yoga and BootCamp, a salt water lap pool, and luxurious locker rooms.  Come in and try us for FREE.

Jim won "Best Personal Trainer" in 2010 from the Washington CityPaper. A few years before that he won Men's Health Magazine "How Fit Are You?" contest, twice in a row. Jim also completed a long standing CrossFit.com Challenge to perform 15 handstand pushups on the rings. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the NSCA, holds his USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Certification, CrossFit Level 1 Certificate, and Precision Nutrition Certification. Jim: "As a coach, I want you to move awesome, feel awesome, and be awesome."

Emily Baskin at the Superfit competition 2013 Emily earned her Masters in Health Promotion Management from Marymount University in 2010, and sees CrossFit as a magic bullet of a health promotion program for people of all abilities and backgrounds. Swirled CrossFit with the right dose of athletic mentality and somehow Emily fell in to her dream job. Emily is a CrossFit Level 1 certified coach, attended Coaches’ Prep Course in the Summer of 2013, a certified group exercise instructor through the American Council on Exercise, and has 4 years experience as a personal trainer at the Department of Justice.

CrossFit Foundations Course

Upon completion of Foundations classes or testing in, you may sign up for as many group classes per week as you wish. All group training memberships include unlimited class.·

Foundations classes are for individuals seeking to enter our ongoing group classes. They are designed to introduce the technique and mechanics of CrossFit’s 9 basic movements and other secondary movements and then intensity. Foundations is perfect for those who are hesitant on or lack technique in the movements, desire more attention and time to review, or are unsure of where to begin. There will be a workout at the end of each day, which will get progressively more challenging as the course progresses.

  • The Foundations classes meet two days per week over the course of three weeks.
  • They consist of·six one-hour training sessions limited to six trainees.

Foundations consists of an Introduction to CrossFit’s basic movements, including:

  • Squats (Air/Front/Back Squats/Overhead Squat)
  • Deadlifts (Deadlift/Sumo Deadlift High Pull/Medicine Ball Cleans)
  • Presses (Standing Shoulder Press/Push Press/Push Jerk)

Secondary movements:

  • Thrusters
  • Kettlebell
  • Swings
  • Box Jumps
  • Jump Rope
  • Developing a Kipping Pull-up
  • Knees to Elbows
Also in foundations, we cover:
  • Application of movements with appropriate intensity
  • Nutrition
