Marissa comes to Balance Gym from a unique background. She has been a certified personal trainer since 2006 and also holds a B.S. and a Master’s degree from Yale. Having studied biochemistry, nutrition, public health, cancer research, and urban planning, some may consider her a bit of a geek. This may be true, but Marissa puts all of that knowledge to good use. She has worked with experienced athletes to reach their strength training goals, those aiming to shed body fat, as well as recovering patients wanting to regain lost muscular strength.
Marissa believes firmly that a healthy lifestyle comes from the interplay between exercise, nutrition, and a positive environment. She insists that everyone should make time for their health and provides tools for her clients to prioritize fitness and physical activity every day. Her workouts can best be described as creative and challenging; she also maintains that high intensity training in the gym is best coupled with stress reduction and recovery.
Marissa also likes to run fast and draws on her experience as an athlete herself: A few recent accomplishments include completing a 3:25 marathon and running 17 miles of a 200-mile relay maintaining 6:45 min/mile pace.
